Early morning at Kuopio Airport, on my way to the EUROSPINE ExCom meeting — but the flight is delayed. Airspace over Helsinki has been closed due to an unidentified foreign drone. Then suddenly, the roar of F/A-18 Hornets on the runway: a rapid scramble through the morning mist toward a potential threat. It is both striking and deeply sad how an increasingly unstable world order reaches into the lives of ordinary people simply trying to live, work and travel normally - not to mention the countless people around the world who are suffering directly from war and conflict every day!
