After the Summer Comes Work

It has been more than three months since my last post from Tromsø, Norway. Since then, I have had the chance to enjoy the Finnish summer to the fullest.

Of course, it has not been three months of vacation! I spent a few weeks working in July, taking care of spinal emergencies that, unfortunately, do not respect holidays. Then, in August, we had a fantastic Nordic Spinal Deformities Meeting in Trondheim, Norway.

A big thank you to Sivert and the entire Trondheim team for all your hard work, hospitality, and for creating such a memorable meeting!

For me, the meeting was also a sentimental one, as my term as President of the society came to an end. I was very happy to hand over the presidency to a great colleague from the Netherlands, Dr. Hanneke van West. I wish her all the very best for her term as President of the NSDS!

Now, as the Finnish summer slowly turns into autumn, and the work fills my agenda, I find myself remembering all the wonderful moments spent in the Finnish Lakeland with our boat. Just a few days ago, I headed out to a remote island once more to enjoy a beautiful sunset.

The view in front of my eyes and the silence around me made me feel deeply grateful for the beauty, purity, and peace we are so fortunate to have here in Kuopio.

Sometimes, it is in these quiet moments that we realize just how fortunate we are. 🇫🇮
